Safety Speed Holster
is another excellent local Southern California that operated many years out of Montebello California.   The were top line makers, starting business about 1942 in Los Angeles, California.  They moved to Whittier CA.  in 1952 and finally to Montebello, CA. in 1963.
Best known for their custom CLAM SHELL holsters, they also carried a full line of police equipment, holsters and gizmos right up to just a few years ago.  They seem to have disapeared in the wake of  competition, perhaps also a lawsuit, but their equipment was top notch, and stood up to hard work and abuse.
In about 2006 or so, Paul the owner passed away, leaving no one to manage the company.  It had moved to BULLHEAD CITY, AZ., trying reorganize under OUTLET LEATHER.  This was not successful and the stock and machinery were sold off and the company is now gone completely.

THIS IS A RIGHT HAND DRAW
Nearly identical to the BIANCHI "Riot Proof" Break front, of the early 1970's - this is when competition for the police market became fierce.  Both holsters have patent numbers within just a few digits of each other, and perhaps a legal a battle over this one as Safety Speed redesigned theirs soon after.
Based on the Berns-Martin designs, this holster is made of a heavy-duty quality leather,  (over 1 pound of leather holster here!) double stitched on the stress areas.  It has a finished leather lined interior and is a well thought out holster.
It is a FULL BREAKFRONT
& bears the COMPANY name on the back.
This was at one time a Standard issue holster for the California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles Sheriffs  Department.
It fits a belt up to 2.25" wide Sam Browne style police/security belt.  With a low Mid Ride Drop on a jacket slot type loop.
A conventional style retention strap secure the gun, and it wraps around the upper front, preventing the holster from opening enough to release the gun.   The outside snap releases with a sweep of the hand on the draw.
The snap is plain brass.
Or you can remove the strap completely and still have excellent retention for the range or out in the field.
This holster features a rear trigger pocket and has hidden inside cylinder cut outs, so it gives a flatter look to the outer surface.
This offers a higher level of grab resistance from the rear, even if the holster is unsnapped.  The draw is fast and natural, with a slight forward and upward movement.
Another nice feature is you can reholster without looking (practice required) in case you have to handcuff or otherwise deal with a suspect.  The gun will slide in, and rest tight against the trigger guard pocket and the cylinder cut outs.
Your gun is relatively secure, even when unsnapped, should the fight or foot pursuit start.  All with one simple movement.

The holster is marked on the back with the SAFETY SPEED LOGO -
