Beautiful and rare sterling silver spoon from Saint Paul Minnesota dating to years around 1900 featuring full figure of African American man with thick lips playing banjo, hat on his head and curly hair under. In the bowl it has hand engraved writing ST. PAUL. This spoon is an example of negative black stereotyping common at the turn of century (1900’s) that African American people were confronted with. This kind of Black Americana Souvenir Spoon was refereed as N…… spoon. These types of spoons are hard to find!On the back it is marked STERLING and has a hallmark for Baker Manchester Mfg. Co. of M in shield with bird on both sides. It is 5 1/4 inch long (133 mm) and in excellent condition. Shipping on multiple purchases are gladly combined.
