    Description

    Beautiful, high quality sterling silver spoon from Portland Maine dating back to years around 1900 featuring on the front of the handle detailed images: state seal with star and rays, two gentleman, farmer and miner with a tree between them and elk in front, banner with wording DIRIGO and then fish caught on a fishing line, below banner reading MAINE, below head of moose with impressive antlers and tall tree down the handle. In the bowl it has colorful painted scene at waterfront, the writing is
    PORTLAND HEAD LIGHT. On the back of the handle it features STATE CAPITOL, then PORTLAND HEAD LIGHT, below SOLDIERS MONUMENT AUGUSTA and ending with a pine comb. Measures 5-7/8” long (148 mm), condition of the spoon is excellent, feels solid. On the back marked STERLING and has hallmark with the old mark of H on a pennant for Mechanics Sterling Company, which was subsidiary of Watson Newell Co.
