Description
Antique souvenir sterling silver spoon with unknown date of manufacture, but not new. There is no engraved date on this spoon, but on the backside of the bowl there is an engraved monogram in script writing, a first name of "Ray". Word "Sterling" imprinted (rather than 925) on backside stem, with the letters "STERLI" clearly visible, the "N" partially visible, but the "G" is not shown, so this is an incomplete impression but still communicates that this spoon is made from sterling silver. There is no manufacturer or retail store marking. Please see images 10 & 11 included.
This vintage collectible souvenir spoon is marked "Boston " in raised letters on the front side spoon stem. We know this is meant to indicate Boston, Massachusetts from the other designs on the spoon. On the spoon bowl is a raised image of Faneuil Hall, with this marked beneath the building and the words ""Cradle of Liberty" marked above the building. The spoon end has a raised design of Old South Church, with this also marked to the side of the building. Beneath the church there is a raised design of a tree, and beneath this is shown a cooking pot with a ladle in it with the words "Baked Beans" on the pot for the famous Boston Baked Beans dish.
Antique sterling MA spoon measures about 4 inches in length, a tad over 7/8 inch greatest width to the oval spoon, about 1/2 inch greatest width to the oval oblong shape of the spoon end, sitting about 7/16 inch greatest depth/height at the upward spoon bowl tip. We would call this spoon size a demitasse spoon or coffee spoon. Weighs about .34 troy ounces or 10.7 grams. This will be shipped in a small box for safety.
This is being sold as is/as found out of a home, in its light gray tarnished condition, we have not attempted to polish this antique piece (as some prefer these in as found condition) and don't know how it would polish up. There are no cracks, chips or bends to the spoon or large flaws that we see. Due to perhaps the tarnishing, there are some small darker areas on the bowl front and back sides, among the general tarnished look throughout. There are fine scratch lines likely from years of polishing (given the age) and likely other expected light wear from being handled, sitting on display, etc. over the years, but nothing out of the ordinary or that detracts.
Please inspect the 12 images closely using the zoom feature for details and close-up views, noting that the camera light creates white "hot spot" reflections on the smooth sterling surfaces. Several of the images were shot without the camera light. This makes them appear yellow, but can help to better show some of the detail which the camera light "blands out".
